#TNTNW was a BLAST!

Thanks to everyone who showed up last Thursday! We were so ready to celebrate the 2nd year of our monthly #TNTNW series! It’s hard to believe it’s been two years.

We had to call in Slate Coffee and their Slatestream for our parking lot throwdown! Yeah we’re pretty darn lucky to have such great friends. 32 Baristas battled in the Slatestream but only three came out victorious.

What’s a party without music? We had two local Olympia bands on hand to rock our socks off. Red Red Red and Moldy Castle, both bands have members that used to work at Espresso Parts (PA provided by Olympia All Ages – Northern).

The lovely folks at Oly Smokers fed us some amazing brisket and beans. Our local brewery Fish Tale gave us a screaming deal on some organic IPA that went real well with the BBQ.

We want to extend a big ole’ thank you to all of the businesses that helped us put on a great event. And of course to all the people who showed up and rocked out with us.

Here are the victors:

  • 1st. Kyle Rees
  • 2nd. Robert Stofleth
  • 3rd. Mike Cannon

This event was made possible because of our generous title sponsors: Espresso Parts, Barista Magazine, Baratza, and Craft Coffee.photo14 photo4 IMG_3392 IMG_3390 IMG_3388

We couldn’t be happier for them to partner with us to make #TNTNW even better!

Here is what they have committed to providing:

#TNTNW UPDATE!

Hello everyone. We’ve had two great events this year thanks to La Marzocco USA and Cafe Cesura. La Marzocco rolled out the red carpet and treated everyone to some tasty beverages and some amazing swag. Baristas had the choice of throwing down in the latte art comp or participating in a triangulation cupping or BOTH. Ohh yeah Sprudge DJ’d too…NBD. #TNTNW @ La Marzocco USA The event at Cafe Cesura was the first educational #TNTNW event so far. That’s right! There was no latte art thrown down but some serious knowledge instead. We had the top brewers in our region grace us with their presence. Brewers Cup Champ Brandon Paul Weaver and second place winner Ben Jones showed us what it takes to brew great coffee. They also answered questions form the crowd. It was a really great time and Cafe Cesura even fed everyone pizza!

We’ve been having such a great time getting the community together for these events. If you’ve ever hosted THANK YOU! #TNTNW wouldn’t work without all of the amazing cafes that have been involved. If you would like to host please check the schedule below. We look forward to many more years of #TNTNW. Thank you!!!

#TNTNW @ Neptune 9/20/2012

Our annual #TNTNW at Neptune Coffee is one of our favorite events of the year. It’s also the kickoff to Coffee Fest Seattle. Baristas from all around the world throwdown for glory, some scrilla, and most importantly get together and be awesome!

We wanted to make this year pretty special so we decided to run a raffle to raise money for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Through the contributions from our sponsors: Velton’s Coffee roasting Co. (coffee), Espresso Parts (pitcher rinser), Hiroshi Sawada (new book), Unic Espresso Machines (home espresso machine), and Rip Van Wafels we were able to raise $600!!!!

The scene at Neptune was pretty chill. The keg was tapped, Jordan from Sprudge was in the house spinning records for everyone to dance to and ever so slowly we were filling up. With all the spots filled and beer in our guts we decided it was time to start. FANBOY ALERT: So, we were pretty stoked to have not one but three of our favorite people in coffee judge for us. Sarah Allen…Barista Magazine DUH! Hiroshi Sawada…Streamer Coffee & latte artist extraordinaire, and Pete Licata…US Barista Champ much? All donated their time to make the event happen.

There was a lot of beer drinking, shop talk, dancing, shouting and all around tomfoolery. Competition was pretty stiff! In the end we had three radical Baristas take the top spots!

  1. Christopher Nicely Abel Alameda
  2. Kazunori Matsubara
  3. Cole McBride

Big props to everyone that showed up. We started doing these events last year to get more involved in the community and it’s grown so much! It’s so nice to see all of you at the #TNTNW!!!!!!!!!!!
